Baker & Wife Feature: My Delicious Blog

Nicole Coudal of My Delicious Blog recently featured Baker & Wife! My Delicious Blog is all about cooking delicious food, much of it from the Gulf of Mexico. She focuses on whole foods available/grown near her home in Southwest Florida.

Sometimes a restaurant surprises you, which is just what happened when I visited BAKER & WIFE on Siesta Drive in Sarasota. Owners Isaac and Iya Correa have filled their menu with beautiful, high quality food inspired by their heritage (he’s from Puerto Rico, she’s from Russia) and many travels, and it’s all prepared with love. When you walk in you know the place is different — loaded w/lovely decor including vintage finds, warm lamplight, interesting architectural elements and comfortable seating.

The menu is ‘vegetable-forward’ w/plenty of gluten free & vegetarian options like watercress butternut squash/kale salad, roasted brussels sprouts/cauliflower with red pepper pkhali & nutritional yeast (the sprouts were SO good they broke my aversion to them!), and pumpkin/garbanzo burger w/rice, flax and cumin, topped w/guacamole. But you’ll also find burgers, steaks, chicken, fire roasted pizza, fresh salads and seafood, as well as, craft cocktails made with house-made ingredients, prepared by the talented Uldis Petersons. And you’re sure to find delicious baked goods around, since the name IS Baker & Wife. . .

They’re offering a few specials like Orechiette pasta w/kale pesto and brussels sprouts (if I was left alone with a bowl of this stuff it would be gone in a matter of seconds), grilled garlic shrimp w/tomatillo-avocado-serrano sauce, and fresh Grouper w/herb butter, black-eyed peas and tomato/ lemon/jalapeño relish. Please, do NOT leave without trying the warm, house-made garlic focaccia w/tzatziki, hummus & red pepper pkhali. It’s delicious. If you have a sweet tooth, try the brownie w/salted popcorn ice cream or the baker’s banofee. And be sure to say hello to your lovely hosts, dedicated to your wonderful dining experience — they won’t let you leave hungry. They’re open for dinner (Tues-Sat) and their “No Rush Hour” special of 15% off the entire menu 5-6 pm makes it even easier to visit!
